UC Davis Intercollegiate Athletics Planning Study
Davis, CA | sports/recreation
UC Davis commissioned this major study to prepare its intercollegiate athletics facilities for an important new era: membership in the Mountain West Conference. In our resulting document, we evaluated existing programs and facilities, identified upgrades by priority, advanced conceptual strategies for growth, and recommended nearly $300MM in improvements.
For seven venues, we developed conceptual designs and project criteria establishing a strong and cost-effective basis for athletics programming; several projects will follow a design-build model.
As part of this exhaustive effort, we reimagined Dobbins Baseball Stadium and its adjacent soccer venue, upgrading the home dugout with Division 1A-level clubhouse facilities including a film room, lockers, a lounge area, offices for coaching staff, and a reception area for recruits. We also envisioned contemporary improvements related to spectators’ comfort, safety, and entertainment. Our design for the new Aggie Softball Stadium holds 1,000 baseline and home-plate seats, plus 1,000 additional seats atop a gracious lawn berm in home-run territory. This complex will include team rooms, a lounge, a film room, batting cages, and multiple bullpen configurations. Improvements to the Track & Field facilities include, as part of a new multi-sport venue, a building with a team room dedicated to supporting athletes and coaches.
