Sundance Kabuki Cinemas

San Francisco, CA | retail/mixed use | arts/entertainment | hospitality

Date night means dinner and a movie in J-town, all under one roof.

ELS transformed the aging Kabuki multiplex into a new entertainment destination featuring stadium seating, upscale food and beverage service, and casual hospitality-grade lounge spaces. The rustic, Japanese-inspired design reflects Sundance’s mission to show independent films in an intimate setting and fuses elements from their home base in the Wasatch Mountains with the cinema’s urban home in San Francisco’s Japantown. Respectful to the environment, many of the materials—including the reclaimed wood, carpet, seatbacks, bar tables, and sign blanks—are directly recycled or contain recycled materials.
