Berkeley Repertory Roda Theatre

Berkeley, CA | arts/entertainment
1/2

The Roda Theatre creates an epic space with the proportions for significant new shows while retaining an intimate sense of engagement with the audience.

Site Plan

Compact and intimate, the Roda’s 600-seat proscenium theater offers a large stage, full fly tower and adjustable stage floor. The new theater creates a strong street presence through a dramatic three-story lobby, balcony, and stair overlooking Downtown Berkeley’s Arts District. The addition’s red brick facade and courtyard link the new theater to an existing 400-seat house and Berkeley Rep’s adjacent School of Theatre, completing a half-block entertainment complex and fulfilling broader goals that included treating this site as a cornerstone and catalyst for the creation of Berkeley’s Arts District. This project has received the U.S. Institute of Theatre Technology’s honor award in architecture, a Downtown Berkeley Association award, and an AIA Design award.
