Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center
Mountain View, CA | sports/recreation
ELS worked with the City of Mountain View on the replacement of the Rengstorff Aquatics Center, built in 1959.
In collaboration with city staff, we developed compelling public programming that allows the city to generate revenue and support the rapid growth in public demand. The center includes a 25yd x 25M competition pool, a 4,000 sf recreation pool and ample deck and a robust lawn area accommodating visits by 1,500+ visitors per day. Within the new aquatics building are a reception space, locker and shower facilities, a multipurpose room for social gatherings, and city offices. This project, which is targeting LEED Gold certification, sets an important precedent for the design of sustainably operated aquatic centers by being the first all-electric outdoor pool in California to use heat pumps. The project commenced operations after a grand opening to the public in March 2025.
