San Jose Civic
San Jose, CA | arts/entertainment | historic
The renovation of the San Jose Civic preserves its Spanish Colonial charm while adding modern concert hall amenities.
Over the decades, this iconic venue became a major tour stop on the West Coast, hosting acts such as the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, the Grateful Dead, the Beach Boys, and the Who. ELS worked closely with the City of San Jose as part of the venue’s strategic renovation. Taking care to retain the site’s historic character, ELS updateed the venue to include new fixed seating for 3,000, a colorful LED display that illuminates the building’s exterior seven nights a week, new concession stands, renovated restrooms, a modern sound system, and two new video screens. ELS also made improvements to the attached Montgomery Theatre, longtime home to the San Jose Children’s Musical Theater. Much of the rehabilitation, which spanned two and a half years, was done while the theater remained in operation. The updated Civic now continues its tradition, under the promotion of Nederlander Concerts, as the preferred concert venue for concertgoers across Silicon Valley.
