Morgan Hill Aquatics Center
Home to multiple swim teams, water polo teams and recreational aquatic activities, the new swim complex is the first outdoor aquatics complex certified at the LEED Silver level by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The energy efficient design includes optimized energy performance for HVAC and lighting and passive ventilation for summertime cooling of the locker and shower area. The most striking characteristic of the design is the creative use of “wind sails” to block the prevailing winds and reduce the amount of energy and water lost due to evaporation, resulting in an overall water savings of 57% and a pool heating cost reduction of 40%. In addition, 95% of the construction debris was recycled and diverted from landfill.
