UC San Diego Canyonview Recreation Center

La Jolla, CA | sports/recreation
1/5

Our design for the expansion and renovation of Canyonview Recreation Center provides a welcoming entry to the east side of campus on Voigt Drive.

Located adjacent to a protected open space reserve and near student housing, the two existing 50M pools and new center are programmed to serve the Recreation, Athletics and Aquatics departments. One challenge was to fit the building’s mass onto a narrow site between the existing pools and a major campus road.

The 30,000-sf facility will provide space for fitness, yoga and training, as well as administrative offices, a teaching kitchen, and locker rooms for athletic and recreational users. A sprint ramp connects first and second floor wellness and fitness areas. The building design targets LEED Gold and and exceeds Title 24 Energy Conservation Standards by 20%. It will maximize energy and water efficiencies, daylighting, views, natural ventilation, and indoor/outdoor programming.
