What to do with an empty department store? Redevelop it with entertainment and a grocery store.

Food Hall Concept

At Stonestown Galleria, ELS is working with Brookfield Properties Retail on the redevelopment of the former Macy’s and Nordstrom anchor buildings. Our plan for the Macy’s site reconfigures the complex into a new mix of tenants that include a 12-screen Regal Cinemas, a Whole Foods grocery store, Gameworks, a Sports Basement, and small shops and restaurants. The Nordstrom anchor is being repurposed to house multiple large tenants, including an expansion of Stonestown’s existing Target store into the anchor building’s second floor.

The transformation of this already popular retail center into a shopping, dining, and entertainment district is aimed at engaging the area’s diverse population, with a special focus on enhancing the appeal of the site to nearby residents. The design has made a point to avoid demolition wherever possible by repurposing as much of the existing structure as is technically feasible. Once completed, the renovated Stonestown Galleria will be home to over 100 retailers, with more than 800,000 sf of leasable space.
