RH San Francisco

San Francisco, CA | mixed-use/retail/office | historic | hospitality/f&b
1/6

RH engaged ELS to renovate and expand this historic building, which was the former headquarters for the West Coast shipbuilding division of Bethlehem Steel. Its renovation is part of a larger master plan for the redevelopment of Pier 70 in San Francisco.

For this adaptive reuse project, we worked with the Port of San Francisco, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the National Park Service. Designed by Frederick H. Meyer and completed in 1917, the Classical Revival building was an ideal setting for the creation of RH’s new, flagship showroom, which helps the homegoods retailer extend into the realm of hospitality-grade experiences.

Spanning 60,000 sf across five floors, the RH Modern Gallery offers a rooftop conservatory with views of the bay and a terrace featuring outdoor furniture displays and fire pits ideal for hosting special events, a cafe restaurant and open kitchen in a new pavilion building, a wine vault, and an interactive atelier for custom design consultation.
