Kerman Area Multi-Generational Resiliency Center
Kerman, CA | community/education
Through a competitive process The City of Kerman selected ELS Architecture and Urban Design to lead the design and development of the Kerman Area Multi-Generational Resiliency Center, recognizing the firm’s strength in community-centered design and its ability to integrate resilience, sustainability, and public engagement into a cohesive vision.

This transformative project expands the existing community center with a 10,000-square-foot addition, creating a modern civic hub that serves residents of all ages. Designed for both everyday use and times of need, the center supports recreation, education, social services, and multi-generational programming—bringing seniors, youth, and families together in a welcoming and vibrant setting.
Equally important, the facility will serve as a critical resilience hub during emergencies. Supported in part by the State’s Community Resilience Center program, it incorporates essential infrastructure, including backup power and water, enhanced air filtration, communications and charging capabilities, a commercial kitchen, and spaces for shelter and coordination.
A defining feature of the project is its community-driven process. Through workshops, surveys, and bilingual outreach, residents are actively shaping the center’s program, scale, and character.
More than a building, the KAMGRC represents a forward-looking investment in health, equity, and long-term community resilience.
