ELS is a leader in designing all-electric operations for aquatic centers, and now, during this year’s Climate Week NYC events, our efforts on these cutting-edge facilities just won some prominent national recognition.
ELS received an Honorable Mention in the Electric Innovation Initiative Awards Program for our submission, “Six All-Electric Aquatic Centers Lead the Way to Decarbonization.” These groundbreaking projects were undertaken in collaboration with the adventurous and far-sighted leaders of Alameda, Mountain View, Oxnard, Piedmont, Santa Ana, and South San Francisco. Mountain View’s replacement aquatic center, which opened in 2025, is the first aquatic facility of its size in California to be fully electric. Its five successors have either recently opened or are about to launch soon. Each project is designed to operate with zero greenhouse gas emissions, reflecting the feasibility and benefits of such projects and highlighting ELS’s deep commitment to climate leadership in municipal architecture.
Electric Innovation is a ten-year initiative founded by California Energy Commission Chair David Hochschild and Hawaii State Senator Chris Lee. It unites bipartisan policymakers and industry leaders to advance electrification, bolster America’s competitiveness, and expand access to clean, affordable energy.
Founded and run by the international non-profit Climate Group in coordination with the United Nations General Assembly, Climate Week NYC is the world’s largest annual climate event, bringing together leaders in business, politics, investing, and government to drive climate action.
