PROJECT ARCHITECT / PROJECT MANAGER, 10+ YEARS EXPERIENCE

ELS Architecture and Urban Design is looking for a creative, collaborative, and motivated senior architect to join our team for a permanent, full-time assignment. One of the largest architectural and planning firms in the East Bay, we are dedicated to design excellence utilizing sustainable technologies and practices. Our award-winning portfolio includes sports & recreation, retail & mixed-use, historical, civic, and theatres. ELS is located in downtown Berkeley, a block from BART and two blocks from the UC campus.

Desired qualifications:

  • 10+ years of architectural technical and design experience

ENVIRONMENTAL & EXPERIENTIAL GRAPHICS DESIGN LEADER, 8+ YEARS EXPERIENCE

ELS has an exceptional leadership opportunity for an Environmental Graphic Design candidate who is passionate about work at the intersection of communication and architecture. The best-qualified candidate will lead the graphic, experiential, and informational design-focused practice and collaborate with other market sector leadership in elevating the communicated design experience of all projects within the firm. The candidate should be self-motivated and bring a high degree of attention to detail. Responsibilities will include building and leading the Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) team and managing EGD projects. The candidate should have a strong background in graphic, digital, and architectural design.

Experience:

  • Strong design point of view and attention to detail
  • Excellent client, fabricator, and vendor relationships and project management skills
  • Active participant within the environmental graphic design community, including SEGD
  • Proven experience with design of signage in both architectural and interior environments
  • Digital graphics and media experience a plus
  • Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills—written, oral, and graphic
  • Emphasis on leading teams to work successfully with clients through the entire design and construction/installation process

Requirements:

FOOD & BEVERAGE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN LEADER, 8+ YEARS EXPERIENCE

ELS has an exceptional leadership opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about architectural design in the food and beverage industry. The best qualified candidate will lead the design of food and beverage architecture and interior projects and collaborate with other market sector leadership in elevating the design experience of all projects within the firm. Responsibilities will include development of client relationships, leading design teams, FF&E selection, interior architectural finish selection, and managing F+B projects. The candidate should have a strong background in design work within the F+B industry, including work with restaurants/cafes, food halls, markets, commissaries, mobile-food vendors, and popups. Strong client relationship skills, staff mentorship, and project management are required to represent this area of the firm’s practice.

Experience

  • Excellent client relationship and management skills
  • Design and development of food and beverage focused projects
  • Proven experience with design of food and beverage public service areas an amenities in hospitality as well as other projects types
  • Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills—written, oral, and graphic

ELS has an exceptional opportunity for an architectural design candidate who is passionate about hospitality design in all project types as it touches every aspect of our public realm, including hotels, resorts, retail and mixed-use, sports and recreation, arts, and cultural projects. We recognize the added value a well-designed hospitality-grade experience brings to the success of all projects.

Responsibilities include the design of hospitality experiences throughout all of our project types. Additional responsibilities include hospitality design leadership, FF&E selection, interior architectural finish selection and cultivating an emerging interior design practice area.

Experience:

  • Proven experience with design of public areas and amenities—hotel guest room design experience a plus but other hospitality projects are encouraged as well
  • Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills—written, oral, and graphic
  • Active participant within the interior design community, including ASID and IIDA
