Second Design Charrette for Telegraph Avenue
On September 27 and 28, 2013, Berkeley Design Advocates hosted the second Telegraph Avenue design charrette with more than thirty participants to develop design and planning concepts for the revitalization of Telegraph Avenue. This year’s charrette focused on two specific locations: a southern gateway from Dwight to Blake, and a northern gateway from Bancroft to Durant. These highly-visible locations have available right-of-way for major public improvements and are abutted by private development opportunity sites. Design concepts were developed, which included street design, parklets, retail mix, transit infrastructure, and other ways to make Telegraph an even greater urban place. Ryan Call, a Senior Associate at ELS, in collaboration with BDA and Darell Fields, was essential in developing and providing the base material to make the charrette possible and productive. Ryan also presented the urban analysis and physical constraints at the pre-charrette public forum.
