Ward Village Shops is a mixed-use urban center featuring national retailers such as Nordstrom Rack, Pier 1 Imports, and TJ Maxx. The project is located along major transit routes in the Kaka’ako district (a master-planning effort by ELS that won the National American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design in 1997). The simple architectural style fits within the neighborhood context and uses trellised arcades and significant landscape and outdoor lighting fixtures and provides a contemporary interpretation of traditional Hawaiian architecture. The LEED-CS certified project is the first phase of the larger Ward Village, currently the largest LEED-ND Platinum certified project in the nation.
