The Oviedo Marketplace
The exterior of the 400,000-square-foot Oviedo Marketplace is designed as a living green building in a natural landscape. Jasmine-covered mesh screens overlay masonry walls to knit the structure to a landscaped environment. Taking cues from principles of greenhouse design, the retail center provides a tall glass curtain wall at the north-facing main entry and an appropriately-scaled glass curtain wall at the south-facing food court to draw in sunlight and capture views of the surrounding wetlands.
“By keeping it simple with materials, maximizing what they had available to them naturally, and strategically including environmental sustainability within the program, ELS and SWA succeeded in creating a (building)…that seemingly sprouted right out of the ground.” – Contract magazine
