Temple Sherith Israel Renovation
Temple Sherith Israel combines Sephardic (Spanish and Portuguese) architecture and decoration, including mahogany woodwork, stained glass windows, and a highly painted decorative interior that extends up into the 60-foot diameter dome. The ELS design, in collaboration with structural engineering firm Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, seismically strengthens the 1904 unreinforced brick structure with solutions that will maintain and protect the temple’s historic character and interior.
