Ford Center for Sports and Recreation and Burnham Pavilion, Stanford University
The Ford Center for Sports and Recreation includes the Ford Center Fieldhouse and the renovation of the historic Burnham Pavilion. The two projects build upon ELS’ 1987 Master Plan for the Athletic Regions. The design of the new construction adhered to the University’s Design Guidelines for the Main Campus, taking stylistic cues from the adjacent historic landmark. It provides two full-size basketball courts, a competition volleyball court, exercise room and locker rooms. The historic Burnham Pavilion provides an arena for intercollegiate gymnastics, wrestling, fencing, and basketball. It is also used for recreational and intramural sports. After serving as temporary administrative offices for many years, the building was restored by ELS to its original purpose.
