Fairfield Center for the Creative Arts
ELS designed the 400-seat, multiform community theater as a component of a downtown revitalization program. In response to a program requiring flexibility of use for drama, dance, and music, the design allows for proscenium, thrust, and orchestra pit venues. The “courtyard configuration” of the seating area offers an intimate relationship between performer and audience. The project also includes a rehearsal room, visual arts gallery, public access video studio, stage shop and dressing rooms which, along with the theater and lobby, are organized around a large, outdoor courtyard. Working closely with the City of Fairfield and the City’s consultants, ELS designed the theater to be in harmony with streetscape and other downtown revitalization improvements.
