Downtown Berkeley YMCA
ELS recently completed the seismic renovation and expansion of the Downtown Berkeley YMCA, a registered local historic landmark built in 1910. The project includes fully renovated facilities for cardio, strength training, free weights, aerobics; new lobby, members’ lounge and refurbished guestrooms; and refurbishment of the building’s historic façade. In addition, the new Youth and Family Fitness Zone and an Interactive Wellness Center are designed to motivate family members of all ages to exercise. As a result of the renovation, member satisfaction has increased, and the presence of the YMCA’s programs and civic stature have been elevated on the most prominent corner of Berkeley’s landmark downtown Civic Center. The project features sustainable design strategies and is LEED Gold certified.
