Cañada College Kinesiology, Wellness, and Aquatics Center

Redwood City, CA | Education, Sports & Recreation

ELS, in partnership with Blach Construction, have teamed to deliver a new 85,000 sf center for kinesiology, wellness, and aquatics.

The new building will be the home of the Cañada College Physical Education Department, housing Athletics, Dance, and Kinesiology groups. The two-story structure will house both academic and enterprise facilities, including classrooms for wellness activities, an extensive area for fitness equipment, an NCAA basketball arena, locker and shower facilities, offices, and auxiliary facilities. The program also includes an “activated roof” with running track, pickleball courts, QueenAX training apparatus, and outdoor yoga space. From the roof, as well as the main fitness space, one will experience a spectacular panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay.

The center will also boast a state-of-the-art aquatics center, with an instructional pool and a 25 meter by 25 yard competition pool. The aquatic center will include on-deck restrooms, shower and changing facilities, and ample storage. The panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay is also enjoyed from the sun-drenched pool decks.

Cañada’s new LEED Gold targeted center for kinesiology, wellness, and aquatics will provide a modern, architecturally dramatic, and fully accessible facility for students, faculty, staff, and community. The new center will serve as the College’s gateway building and with the development of the new South Quad, will be linked to the rest of the Cañada campus, strengthening the overall campus aesthetic and pedestrian usability.
