Bay Area YMCA Master Plan
From 2009 through 2011 ELS worked with the Department of Parks and Recreation of a suburban Bay Area city to explore options for rebuilding what had been a state-of-the-art aquatic facility when first built in 1967. Over its lifetime, the facility has served as a key defining element of its community, and at the same time was considered a better competition facility than Cal’s or Stanford’s, serving from time to time as a training facility for their swimmers. The ELS study includes replicating the original facility with 2 all-deep competition pools, as well as adding teaching and family recreation pools to enhance financial feasibility. Now ELS is studying how a Bay Area YMCA may help the city by taking over operations, but with more of a focus on teaching and family fitness.
