by: | August 6, 2012

Clarence Mamuyac has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Clarence leads the sports and recreation market sector for ELS, and he is responsible for the firm’s overall strategic marketing effort. In his time with the firm since 1981, he has extended the firm’s emphasis the interdependency of architecture and urban design.

His body of work demonstrates that a highly inclusive design process can create award-winning buildings that serve as regional and national benchmarks. A strong advocate of public participation, he draws on modernist precedents while fitting his facilities into their communities with their massing and choice of materials. His sports and recreation facilities expose the program activities as much as possible, resulting in light-filled spaces intended to invite all to take advantage of the resources within. Generous lobby and circulation spaces serve as community living rooms for people to socialize. His projects incorporate significant sustainable design strategies to lower operating costs for owners while minimizing environmental impact
